Localization Project Management
Localization project management plans, sequences and delivers multilingual work on time, on budget and at quality, across languages, vendors and time zones, and usually while the source content is still moving.
Also known as: localization project management, locpm, localization pm, localization program management
The recurring loop of a localization project
- IntakeWhat content, for which locales, by when, at what quality.
- PlanningVolumes, budgets, vendor capacity, the critical path.
- Translation and reviewWork runs; the PM protects scope and sequence.
- QASeverity-based issue handling against the release date.
- Delivery and retroShip, then record what to change in the next cycle.
What the PM actually owns
Scope and sequence. When a launch is at risk, the PM measures impact, protects the highest-risk locales, renegotiates what slips, and gives stakeholders a decision instead of a surprise. The PM does not undo changes or translate the content themselves.
The core tension
Time, cost, quality, scope. Pick three. Localization PMs make that trade-off explicit per project instead of letting it be decided by accident. Most failures are sequencing failures, not effort failures.
Common mistakes
Treating every locale identically when risk differs. Accepting source changes without renegotiating the timeline. Running QA as an afterthought compressed into launch day.
